Gregory J. Depow

PhD Candidate in Social Psychology

About: A Brief Description of my Work and Life

Hello! My name is Greg Depow, thank you for dropping by my website.

I am a SSHRC Doctoral Fellow and Ph.D. Candidate in the Psychology department at the University of Toronto as well as a Rechter Fellow in Positive Leadership at the University of Louisville, Center for Positive Leadership. I am the Social Media Coordinator of the Psychology Graduate Student Association and a former student coordinator of the University of Toronto Social Personality Research Group. I work with Dr. Michael Inzlicht on the Scarborough campus in the Work and Play Lab (formerly known as the Toronto Laboratory for Social Neuroscience). In addition, I work with Dr. Rachel Ruttan in the Morality Altruism Politics Emotions Lab (MAPEL) based out of the Rotman School of Management. I’ve also done directed research with industry partners such as Potential Project.

My research focuses on how individuals perceive and engage with the thoughts and emotions of other people, how they make decisions to invest effort for others, and how these and other experiences impact subjective well-being. I have explored these constructs in different contexts–in lab experiments, within organizations, on social media, and in everyday life. I am broadly interested in closing our aspirational gap of connecting with others and leading happy, meaningful lives.

Along with my PhD work, I am a husband and father with kids and a baby at home that keep me busy and entertained! When I’m able, I enjoy playing basketball, riding the old skateboard, and firing up some video games.
